The Role

The Council has an exciting opportunity for a Gypsy & Traveller Liaison Officer to manage its permanent traveller site and to assist in all matters related to Gypsies and Travellers that fall within the remit of the Local Authority.

The successful candidate will be required to work collaboratively, supportively and effectively with other departments and external agencies and have a good knowledge and understanding of the issues faced by the Gypsy and Traveller Community. This is a chance to make a real difference working within the Housing Service to provide effective community liaison with Gypsy and Traveller Communities resident in Ealing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering a high-quality management service to the Council's permanent traveller site.
  • Carrying out regular health & safety inspections to ensure the site is compliant.
  • Managing the allocation process for Council Traveller sites from application through to letting and signing up new tenants.
  • Dealing with issues arising on site, including non-compliance/breaches of licence.
  • Dealing with Repairs and Maintenance.
  • Mediating disputes and working with residents on a day-to-day basis.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience of working with the Gypsy and Traveller Community
  • A working knowledge of Gypsy and Traveller legislation
  • Experience of delivering customer care to a diverse community
  • GCSE qualifications or equivalent (including English and Maths)
  • High standard of communication skills, demonstrated by the ability to draft correspondence without supervision; the ability to compile information into simple factual reports; and the ability to explain complex rules to service users over the telephone and face to face.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations in a way that tries to resolve issues for the customer.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and customer service.
  • Ability to understand and research relevant regulatory and statutory regulations and information.
  • Ability to deliver customer services to a diverse community in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Goes the extra mile to get things done and takes pride in delivering a good service.
  • Ability to be flexible and to use own initiative to achieve results.
  • Able to meet activity deadlines by planning work around conflicting priorities and able to understand and deliver project objectives in target.
