Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire

Schedule: Monday-Friday - 8:30am-3:30pm (Full time and part time shifts available)

Contract Type: Temporary -Term Time Only

Day Rate: £85-£100 a day

Start Date: July 2024

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with special educational needs? We are looking for dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistants to join our team at a leading special school in Bradford, committed to supporting students with disabilities, learning difficulties, challenging behaviours, and complex needs. The school have incredible facilities to meet the needs of the students as well as a highly skilled and experienced teaching team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual and Group Support: Provide tailored one-on-one and group support to students with a range of special educational needs, ensuring each student feels safe, understood, and valued in their learning environment.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement and follow individual behaviour support plans, utilising positive reinforcement and other strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours effectively.
  • Educational Assistance: Assist teachers in delivering customised educational programs, adapting materials and teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students with complex needs and learning difficulties.
  • Monitoring and Assessment: Track and document student progress, behaviours, and achievements, providing regular feedback to teachers, and parents to support education and behaviour plans.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond promptly and calmly to crises, using approved Level 2 Team Teach intervention techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
  • Relationship Building: Foster strong, positive relationships with students to build trust and rapport, encouraging their social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals, participating in regular meetings and contributing to a holistic approach to student development.
  • Environment Maintenance: Help create and maintain a structured, predictable, and engaging classroom environment, organising materials and setting up activities that promote learning and development.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and behaviour support.
  • Personal Care: Assist with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience supporting adults and/or children with complex needs is essential.
  • Personal experience supporting a family member with SEN/PMLD is also valued.
  • Level 2 Team Teach is essential, although this training can be offered by Veritas.
  • Safeguarding training is essential, although this training can be offered by Veritas.
  • GCSE English and Maths is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of SEN is essential.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and patience are crucial. The ability to handle challenging situations with calm and professionalism is a must.
  • A dedication to improving the lives of students with complex needs and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to adapt to the varying needs of students and the school environment.
  • A moving and handling qualification is preferred.
  • Candidates must hold or be willing to apply for an enhanced DBS upon registration.
  • Have proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
