SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you ready to empower students with special educational needs to thrive and succeed?

Empowering Learning is actively seeking multiple SEN Teaching Assistants to join one of our Specialist Schools in Lichfield, Staffordshire. The role is a Monday to Friday, full time position with an immediate start date.

The school caters for individuals with a wide range of Special Educational Needs from children with profound medical needs and life limiting conditions, those with severe, moderate, and sensory needs through to young people with social emotional and mental health needs that requires patience and understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers with preparing educational material and lesson plans.
  • Support students in their learning journey and help them achieve continual progress during lessons.
  • Ensure students advance not only in academic settings, but also in developing self-help skills, life skills and social understanding.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Support the emotional and social development of students, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Promote and ensure the safety and well-being of all students at all times.

Requirements:

  • A teaching assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge and experience of working with children who have special needs especially in the areas of physical disability, sensory, complex medical and communication difficulties.
  • A genuine passion for supporting the learning and development of SEN students.
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills.
  • Ability to be a good team player.
  • Resilience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
