Semi Senior Accountant

Sewell Wallis are working with a highly regarded Chartered Accountants who are looking to expand their team as they take on a Semi-Senior Accountant at their stylish, modern offices in Sheffield.

This is a fantastic opportunity if you are looking to progress from an Accountant into a more senior role to show what you're capable of, with the ability to get involved in ad hoc duties to help broaden your experience further.

In this role, you will be supported by a large, friendly team to help you take those necessary steps in progressing personally and professionally, which will have a massive impact on your future career.

What you will be doing:

  • Preparation of year-end accounts - preparing all working paper schedules to create a set of financial statements to draft stage for Manager review, including final amendments post review before final sign off (95% are limited companies rather than sole traders).
  • Preparation of business tax returns following the above.
  • Preparation of self-assessment tax returns for various clients.
  • Ability to get involved with some ad hoc duties as and when required, this may involve some HMRC forms to cover bands touring in foreign countries, reconciling figures to a tour budget, or working out a Manager's commission etc.
  • Using bank statements to post any additional transactions leading to the reconciliation of bank accounts on the software.
  • Some foreign currency transactions - possibly multiple bank accounts to reconcile.
  • General client communications requesting records and dealing with general day-to-day queries and client advice as required.
  • Preparation of some quarterly VAT Returns - for manager review.
  • Assist with the training and development of junior members of staff in the office.

What skills are we looking for:

  • A minimum of 2 years working in a practice environment.
  • Experience with accountancy software is essential (preferably Iris, Sage, Xero and QuickBooks) and confident with spreadsheets/Excel.
  • Someone proactive and organised.
  • Someone ambitious and keen to progress within their career in the firm.
