An exceptional opportunity to join our excellent building control service at Forest of Dean District Council as a Building Inspector, working with a tight knit and dynamic team providing high end support to customers to help them comply in line with current building regulations.

This permanent role offers flexibility from working within the offices at Coleford and agile working allowing you that extra freedom and work life balance.

The post is currently going through a re-evaluation process in line with our commitment to our staff develop programme and is likely to lead to an enhanced salary offer and local government pension scheme.

Our building control team manage a range of interesting projects and in this role you will enjoy the support of a multi-disciplined professional team but be given the autonomy and responsibility to work independently dealing with a range of domestic type building control applications, site inspections and technical queries.

We provide a professional service on all aspects of the building regulations including plan appraisal and site inspections. The successful candidate will be involved in carrying out a variety of inspections including dangerous structures and resolve the issues that may arise.You will be a valued member of the team, who will contribute to the development of the service in relation to commerciality and efficiency.

In order to be successful, you will need to have a positive attitude, a passion for building safety and desire to learn. You will already need to have understanding of the building regulations. You do not need to be chartered but will be offered the guidance and support to get you there.

Ultimately we are looking for an experienced Building Control Inspector, but we would also welcome applications from candidates looking to step up in their career. Fundamentally, we want to give you the tools to support you, harness your potential to develop and grow your skills and professional development within Building Control long term. This includes support and assistance with appropriate training to become a registered Building Inspector in line with current industry standards.

You will need

  • Minimum CIOB LEVEL 4 Diploma in building control surveying
  • Have completed or in the process of gaining your CABE accreditation
  • HND/HNC in construction or related subject or equivalent
  • Associate membership of a relevant construction body
  • Sound knowledge of the building regulations and associated standards
