Salary: £83 – £100 per day

About the Job Role:

  • To support a Primary aged pupil with special educational needs, whose primary need is with speech, language and communication, on a 1:1 basis.
  • Carry out work pre-planned by the main class teacher, using your own initiative to enable the young person to access the learning activity.
  • Monitor and adapt to the pupil's learning style, using their own interests to engage them into learning activities.
  • Promote speech, language and communication skills through the use of Picture Exchange Communication System (PECs).
  • Develop expressive and receptive language, social and emotional skills, setting them up for success as they progress through school life.
  • Work alongside work Speech and Language Therapists as well as the school's skilled teaching and support staff to improve student learning and progress.

Speech, Language and Communication Needs Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Have experience supporting children, young people or adults with speech, language and communication needs.
  • Be familiar with the Primary Curriculum and have an awareness of Phonics programmes such as Letters and Sounds, Jolly Phonics and Read, Write Inc.
  • You should be someone who puts children and young people first, is caring, proactive, imaginative, and supportive.
  • Be an effective communicator who can work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, other professionals and parents, carers and guardians.
  • Have an awareness and sound understanding of child development and children's personal development needs.

You will work closely with the School SENCO, teaching team and other professionals to have a direct impact on this child's learning and development journey.
