Location: Headingly, Leeds

We are seeking an English Teacher to join our specialist college, dedicated to supporting young adults aged 16-25 with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP), autism, and/or mild to moderate learning difficulties. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping students gain the social and employability skills needed to find and sustain paid employment. Our Ofsted rating in February 2023 was Good, with two categories scoring Outstanding.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Conduct screening and initial assessments to determine students' English levels.
  • Collaborate with the Exams Officer to ensure timely and accurate exam entries.
  • Utilise Skills Builder for regular diagnostic assessments to inform teaching strategies.
  • Plan and implement the English curriculum to support students in achieving relevant qualifications.
  • Direct and coordinate support staff to maximise student support and share planning in advance.
  • Administer necessary tasks for the effective operation of programmes, including moderation, assessment, and verification.
  • Embed English into all curriculum areas, both on-site and at employer premises.
  • Monitor teaching standards, student motivation, and participation, reporting to the Curriculum Lead as necessary.
  • Maintain records and provide data for the college's management information system (MIS).
  • Set, monitor, and review student objectives and training plans, providing early intervention as needed.
  • Update student data regularly, tracking performance and reporting to the Interim Deputy Principal.
  • Collaborate with SENCO and colleagues to monitor and record student progress against personal, EHCP, and work-based targets.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Relevant teaching qualification.
  • Experience in conducting assessments and planning curriculum for English.
  • Ability to work with and support students with EHCPs, autism, and learning difficulties.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational and management information systems.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills to work effectively with colleagues and support staff.
