Bookkeeper - Part-Time

A Plymouth based organisation seeks an experienced Bookkeeper to join their well established finance team. This role will combine regular responsibilities with ad hoc projects and will appeal to someone who enjoys a varied and agile role.

This part-time (21 hours a week), permanent position offers a flexible home-based arrangement with regular travel within the Plymouth area. Dani at Avocet Commercial Careers is thrilled to present this unique opportunity.

Bookkeeper Responsibilities:

  • Support various projects across different areas of the business
  • Maintain accounting records and conduct routine bookkeeping tasks
  • Adapt swiftly to changing priorities and balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Provide support via email, phone, and visits to ensure records are maintained per organisational instructions
  • Conduct monthly accounting tasks, including entering receipts and payments, reconciling bank accounts, and managing cash holdings
  • Prepare annual accounting returns and respond to queries from the central finance office
  • Carry out year-end checks, reconciliations, and risk assessments
  • Perform internal audit work, following written programmes and producing formal reports
  • Respond to queries from staff and the central finance team
  • Provide training and support to employees and staff as needed
  • Undertake ad-hoc tasks and contribute to cross-functional initiatives as required

Bookkeeper Requirements:

  • AAT qualification (full or partially qualified) or equivalent relevant experience
  • Proven track record in bookkeeping, accounting
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Excellent organisational abilities to manage multiple assignments and projects concurrently
  • Meticulous attention to detail in both routine tasks and complex projects
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within set parameters after initial training
  • Willingness to travel within Plymouth (use of personal vehicle is essential, with mileage reimbursed)
