Commercial Manager
Gloucester
£50,000-£55,000 plus bonus
A leading global enterprise in the manufacturing and construction services industry, specialising in modular steel bridges, seeks a dynamic Commercial Manager to support its international sales markets from tender receipt through to contract award and delivery.
Primary Purpose:
- Serve as a key member of the commercial team, providing comprehensive commercial, contractual, and business development support.
- Lead commercial tenders, supporting international sales markets.
- Manage cross-functional coordination of stakeholders in the bid process.
Main Responsibilities:
- Support new and existing international business, ensuring compliance with the company's Business Ethics and Conduct Policy.
- Collaborate with the VP Commercial to review and develop processes for improved performance and growth.
- Assist the commercial team with international enquiry workload.
- Partner with relevant departments to develop high-quality technical and commercial offers, leading to winning bids.
- Conduct detailed reviews of client tender requirements, and present recommendations to senior leadership.
- Manage risk assessments and mitigation strategies for bids, proposals, and new business initiatives.
- Support cross-functional teams in commercial matters.
- Stay informed on market trends and represent the company at industry events as required.
- Lead negotiations of contractual terms and conditions for new business opportunities.
- Manage submission of clarifications, qualifications, and exceptions.
- Prepare pricing strategies, benchmarking, and cost estimation models.
- Maintain and manage enquiry administration within the business CRM tool.
- Provide commercial information reporting to the VP Commercial.
- Maintain client commercial contact on key projects to ensure successful delivery.
- Collaborate with other members of the group to support business needs and professional growth.
Authority and Accountability:
- Assess and manage contract and commercial risks, collaborating with colleagues to mitigate risks in line with the company's Delegation of Authority matrix.
- Ensure the business development organization and VP Commercial have the necessary commercial information.
- Maintain commercial processes in support of business development and leadership teams.
- Coordinate timely input from cross-functional departments in sales and commercial processes.
- Ensure CRM system information is current and accurate.
Experience:
- Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience with contract terms and conditions, including FIDIC and other international contracts.
- Proficiency in IT skills (MS Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, CRM).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Experience in bridge or civil engineering disciplines.
- Fluency in an additional language such as Spanish or French.
- Knowledge of commercial export, Incoterms, Letters of Credit, and payment mechanisms.
- Familiarity with third-party contract conditions and public procurement processes.
