The Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Underwriter to join our childcare specialist business, Morton Michel. This role would suit someone with commercial combined underwriting experience. Morton Michels technical team support the direct and wholesale teams dealing with various underwriting referrals and enquiries from all aspects of the customer's journey. The role also includes coaching and developing others as well as providing technical content for our Operational Trainer.
You will have a strong understanding of delegated authority schemes and disciplines.
You will have excellent administration and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships, at all levels, with brokers, insurers, and across the business.

You will work in a wider team responsible for the product and propositions and work closely with the other customer facing teams.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be dealing with underwriting referrals for new business quotations, mid-term adjustment and renewals in line with agreed delegated underwriting authority guidelines,
  • You will handle technical team queries by phone and emails within agreed authority limits,
  • You will conduct triage on system generated renewals and identify policies that require additional information prior to renewal terms being generated.
  • You will approach insurers with referrals on scenarios that are outside of our Delegated Authority in terms of pricing, coverage and policy conditions,
  • You will be required to be organised with your work allocation and prioritise where necessary whilst regularly reporting to the Product and Proposition Manager.
  • You will adhere to compliance and regulatory procedures,
  • You will ensure that team KPI's, service standards and targets are achieved and exceeded where possible.
  • You will be responsible for the oversight and reporting of Technical QA as well as other ad hoc reporting as required by the business.
  • You will be actively involved in assisting with coaching and providing training content and promote a culture of excellent customer service, team performance and continuous improvement.

Experience:

  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • You will have a proven underwriting experience, and previous knowledge of delegated authority schemes.
  • You will have experience of working within a regulated FCA environment (essential),
  • You will be able to understand and implement 'best practice' in customer service.
  • You will have good experience using bespoke systems preferably including Acturis,
  • You will have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, coupled with excellent time management,
  • You will be able to work under pressure, adapt and be flexible in approach,
  • You will have excellent communication skills which includes verbal, written, listening and negotiation, having the ability to communicate at all levels.
