Hays is one of the market-leading agencies in the Education sector in Gloucester, and we are currently looking to recruit a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for a local Secondary School. This Secondary School, based in Gloucester is a vibrant co-educational school, with a supportive senior management team and great resources.
Your new role
- Providing 1:1 care for a child with Special Educational Needs (e.g. physical or mental impairment, learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia), ADHD, ASD)
- Assisting teachers in preparing the lesson materials and school equipment
- Recording and reporting the child's progress to the Teacher
- Helping the child stay focused during class hours
- Helping teachers manage student behaviour
- Helping teachers improve the core skills of the child with SEN, for example, reading, writing and maths
- Looking after and managing the child if unwell or upset
- Providing a healthy, engaging and safe learning environment for children
What you'll need to succeed
- Understanding of Special Educational Needs (e.g. physical or mental impairment, learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia), ADHD, ASD)
- Ability to guide and teach young people with SEN
- Ability to communicate clearly and articulately
- Inquisitive towards children, good relationship building
- Ability to create an encouraging and appropriate learning environment for children with SEN
- Empathetic - understanding, encouraging and sensitivity towards children and their needs
- Ability to carry out tasks involving a computer or hand-device
- Ability to respond calmly and constructively when under stress
- Adaptable and flexible working attitude
- Ability to learn and use a range of strategies to deal with classroom and individual behaviour
Desired but not essential qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field
- Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or similar
- Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education or similar
- T Level in Education and Early Years or similar
