Job Title: Software Development Manager

Salary:£70,000 - £80,000

Location: Manchester Office/Hybrid

Overview: We are seeking a talented Software Development Manager to join a travel organisation and contribute to the development of an innovative online booking solution for business travellers. This role requires a strong technical leader with a background in software development, particularly with AWS cloud services, to drive the business transformation and support new market expansions.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Deliver complex SaaS software solutions utilising AWS services.
  • Ensure platform scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Provide technical leadership and make key design decisions.
  • Recommend best practices and engineering patterns for AWS technologies.

Communication:

  • Engage with non-technical stakeholders to articulate system behaviour.
  • Support internal departments with new functionality adoption and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Product team on detailed requirements and NFRs.

Delivery:

  • Understand business requirements and formulate solution proposals.
  • Drive implementation through to completion, working with product management, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with suppliers to align developments and maximise benefits.
  • Promote the product to clients, supporting bids and new business opportunities.

Required Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Strategic planning and alignment of software development with business goals.
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle and SaaS application requirements management.
  • Proficiency in application development using cloud-native services and data architectures.
  • Ownership of SaaS solutions in production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS capabilities, database technologies (e.g., Aurora DB, AWS Lambda), and web service APIs.
  • Understanding of data security standards, including Cyber Essentials and ISO 27701.
  • Familiarity with OWASP and NCSC security guidance, and UK GDPR.

Desirable:

  • Experience with user profile management systems, identity management, authentication, and SSO.
  • Technical leadership in design best practices, reusability, and performance optimisation.
  • Automated test and validation toolsets.
  • Experience with accessibility toolsets and WCAG.
  • Working with distributed development teams.
  • 3rd party supplier management.

  • Excellent attention to detail and time-management skills.
  • Ability to self-manage and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to travel if required.
