Job Advert: Behaviour Buddy - Worthing Pupil Referral Unit

Do you have a big heart, a great sense of humour, and a knack for helping kids who need a bit of extra support? We're looking for a Behaviour Buddy to join our dynamic team at a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Worthing. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can bring a bit of fun and flexibility to the day!

Job Title: Behaviour Buddy
Hours: 8:30 am - 4:00 pm (with a half-hour break)
Location: Worthing
Salary: Competitive (based on experience)
Lunch: Provided - we encourage staff to have lunch with students to help build positive connections.

About the Role:

As a Behaviour Buddy, you will be supporting students who have struggled in mainstream education. These young people may sometimes exhibit challenging behaviours, including running out of class or occasional physical outbursts. While it can be tough, it's a highly rewarding role where your positive attitude can make a huge difference.

We're looking for a Behaviour Buddy who:

  • Can laugh along with the students and engage in friendly banter.
  • Is relaxed and easy-going but firm when needed.
  • Has an open mind and can adapt to meet the needs of each individual student.
  • Remains calm under pressure and handles difficult situations with patience.
  • Can work as part of a supportive team and contribute to a positive school culture.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 or small group support to students during lessons.
  • Helping to de-escalate situations with a calm, measured approach.
  • Joining the students during break times and lunch to build rapport and trust.
  • Collaborating with teachers and staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Requirements:

  • A driving license is required for this role.
  • Previous experience is a bonus, but the right attitude and a willingness to learn are more important.
  • A strong sense of humour and the ability to engage with students on their level.
  • A flexible, open-minded approach to working with students with diverse needs.
  • Needs GCSE Maths, English and Science to be considered for this role.

If you're ready to be a Behaviour Buddy who makes a real difference, we want to hear from you! This is a challenging but hugely rewarding role where you can help students find their confidence and potential.
