The post holder will be responsible for providing a high standard of sexual reproductive healthcare to patients accessing the sexual health service. The post holder will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team offering holistic, non-judgemental sexual health care demonstrating professional and ethical responsibilities and to build and maintain good working functional relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will be responsible for the management of the pathology results and to ensure that patients are provided with information, advice, treatment, and support when they are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection The post holder will be expected to supervise and mentor junior staff and nursing students, and to take an active role in the leadership and management of the nursing team. This post involves working at the Garden Clinic in Slough, but you may be required to travel to work at locality clinics in Bracknell, Windsor, and Maidenhead. It is desirable that you be a car driver with the use of a car for work purpose.

To undertake nurse-led clinical sessions, including history taking and physical examinations of patients, within agreed departmental clinical guidelines and within own clinical competence.

To carry out partner notification, to ensure the attendance and treatment of contacts as detailed in the Society of Sexual Health Advisers (SSHA) Partner Notification policy.

Deal with telephone and personal enquiries from both the public and other health professionals, concerning sexually transmitted infections, including HIV and AIDS and generally on any aspect of sexual health. Offer assessment, information, advice, and support and triage/refer as appropriate.

To be aware of the confidential nature of the clinic and work within the legal responsibilities as laid down in the Venereal Diseases Regulations 1974 and the NHS Trust Act 1991.

To work within SSHA guidance e.g. Code of Ethics, Code of Conduct and Guidelines for Good Practice, PN Policy.

To issue medication and /or administer medication / vaccinations to patients attending the Sexual Health Service adhering legally to Patient Group Directions (PGDs) when authorized by lead clinician.

Teach patients, where appropriate to administer their own treatment as necessary.

Undertake delegated management responsibilities.

Participate in clinical supervision and service appraisal scheme.

Keep up to date with developments in nursing practice and sexual health through personal developments plans, training, and education.

Participate in the clinical governance program of the Sexual Health Service, ensuring accurate records are maintained, participating in relevant research and audit, and improving the quality of nursing practice.

Contribute to the general nursing service and be flexible and willing to work in a variety of clinical settings within the service across East Berkshire as required.
