Job Summary:

Four Squared Recruitment are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join a Finance team at a leading manufacturing company. The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance Manager in maintaining accurate financial records, analysing financial data, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have strong numerical skills, excellent organisational abilities, and experience in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, supporting month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals, prepayments, and journal entries.
  • Maintaining the general ledger to ensure accurate and timely posting of transactions is essential.
  • Close collaboration with the production team to monitor and report on manufacturing costs, calculating and analysing standard costs, variances, and inventory valuations, and participating in periodic stock takes to ensure accurate inventory records.
  • In accounts payable and receivable, the Assistant Accountant will oversee the processing of supplier invoices and ensure timely payments, generate and issue customer invoices, and follow up on outstanding payments.
  • Reconciling supplier and customer statements and resolving discrepancies is also part of this role. Regular bank reconciliations will be performed, discrepancies investigated and resolved, and cash flow managed, including assisting in forecasting financial needs.
  • The Assistant Accountant will assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring actual performance against budgets, and reporting on variances.
  • Preparing and analysing financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, and providing financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making processes are crucial.
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies and supporting internal and external audit processes by providing necessary documentation and explanations are required.
  • Administrative support, including maintaining organized financial records and documentation, and providing general support to the Finance team as required, will also be part of the role.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or a professional accounting qualification desirable but not essential.
  • Previous experience in an accounting or finance role essential.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel), excellent organisational and time management abilities, and attention to detail and accuracy are essential.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
