Secondary Teaching Assistant - Salaried Teacher Training

An 'Outstanding' Secondary school in Hounslow is looking for a Secondary Teaching Assistant to support individuals and groups of students at the academy from Year 7 - Year 13 including those with SEND.

The is a thriving non-selective secondary Academy located in West London. The Academy benefits from cutting edge facilities, in addition to spacious and bright communal areas and classrooms. All of these are equipped with the latest technology and designed by our staff and students to ensure their fitness for purpose to educate the children of today.

The school are also renowned for it's teacher training programme, where you can train with an outstanding mentor by your side whilst also being paid! This would commence in September 2024.

Key Details of the Secondary Teaching Assistant Role

  • Secondary Teaching Assistant in KS3-KS5
  • Monday-Friday, term time only!
  • £22,000 per annum, permanent contract
  • Located in the London Borough of Hounslow
  • ASAP Start

Responsibilities of a Secondary Teaching Assistant

  • Supporting various students in 1:1, group or whole class situations in KS3- KS5, prioritising their safety and access to learning in a supportive learning environment.
  • Assisting in developing resources, schemes of work and teaching strategies, working closely with the teacher to ensure the provision supports learning needs.
  • Evaluating students' progress and providing feedback on their achievements, progress and needs.
  • Leading small group sessions and interventions as appropriate.
  • Attending to students' personal needs where required.
  • Supporting with behaviour management.
  • Preparing the classroom for lessons and assisting with the display of students' work.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with parents/carers, gathering and reporting information as directed.

An Ideal Secondary Teaching Assistant will have:

  • Qualifications to degree level or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of SEND and the various barriers to learning
  • Some knowledge of strategies in working with young people / teenagers with challenging behaviours
  • Knowledge of some of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Awareness of Health and Safety issues in a school environment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with an excellent standard of written and spoken English
