Pre-award Grants Manager

Wehave an exciting opportunityavailable for a Pre-award Grants Manager to join one of the world's leading research Institutes at a crucial time in its evolution, and play a definitive role in shaping it for the future. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary from £40,800 to £46,300 per annum with benefits, subject to skills and experience.

The Pre-award Grants Manager role:

The Pre-award Grants team is instrumental in the operational management, development and submission of grant and fellowship applications, and in ensuring compliance with both funder and Crick policies.

The Grants Manager role provides support as required to the Pre-award Grants Team Lead and other Grants team colleagues in all aspects of pre-award grant management working closely with scientific and operational Crick staff to develop proposals, and with Post-Award Grants staff following acceptance of awards. Where appropriate, they will also liaise with external funding bodies and HEI colleagues in all aspects of grant administration.

The objectives of the role include: engaging and working closely with the Crick science community; sourcing and disseminating grant funding opportunities; supporting and advising on all aspects of grant proposal development; liaising with the Post-award Grants team to ensure an accurate and seamless handover of information on award.

Responsibilities of our Pre-award Grants Manager:

These include but are not limited to:

  • Providing pro-active support and advice to scientists on funding opportunities and in the development, approval and submission of funding proposals and activation of subsequent awards;
  • Providing specialist expertise with respect to research application processes (including funder specific terms & conditions, budgeting, ethics and aspects of research agreements);
  • Drafting (non-scientific) elements of the proposal as required such as justification of resources;
  • Using the Crick grants management system (Worktribe), coordinate proposal budgets whilst abiding by funder cost rules and Crick costing practices. Ensure that budgets and applications are approved by the relevant team prior to submission.
  • Initiating due diligence checks in line with Crick policy.
  • Initiating, reviewing, and providing input into negotiations for grant and grant-related agreements in collaboration with the Crick Legal team.
  • Working closely with other colleagues in Operations, especially the post-award grants team and Human Resources to ensure smooth activation of the grant and quick recruitment of project-funded staff.
  • Providing a first-line of support for queries about the Crick Grant Management System (Worktribe), ensuring data collected is accurate.

Qualifications, experience and competencies**:**

  • Previous experience of working within a grants team;
  • Able to keep up-to-date with funder regulations, policies and general good practices governing the administration of grants;
  • Able to disseminate complex funder and financial information to non-experts and personnel at all levels;
  • Able to work independently and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines;
  • Supportive and effective team member, able to work collaboratively with both operational and scientific departments;
  • Excellent numeracy and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Desirable

Qualifications, experience and competencies**:**

  • Postgraduate qualification in a biomedical sciences field;
  • Previous experience working in a scientific environment, liaising and working effectively with a range of disciplines and levels of seniority;
  • Good knowledge of the International and UK Biomedical funding landscape;
  • Proficiency in the use of IT systems to support and enhance the role;
