The Role:
As an Senior Category Manager, you'll put the customer at the heart of everything we do to ensure we maintain our market position, develop and drive the category proposition for the Plumbing and Heating categories within the commercial team to deliver business targets.
The role of the Senior Category Manager is to develop and deliver market leading product ranges to enable us to compete and maximise our market share by delivering the commercial business targets for the category in terms of margin and revenue through great supplier relationships, innovative proposition development and execution through branches and sales teams. This Senior Category Manager team is a great opportunity to join a PE backed business and help deliver further success.
Key Responsibilities
Working alongside the Head of Category, define and deliver market leading category strategies. Strategies will include the management of range, pricing, promotional plan - ensuring that the range and pricing across the proposition is geared towards enabling us to hit our financial objectives and create a market leading product offering for the business.
Working closely with Finance to review and report weekly on trading performance and identify areas of opportunity or concern and take appropriate and timely action to resolve issues and prevent future problems. This is primarily a hybrid-based role with visits to our office, branches & suppliers on a weekly basis.
Network and maintain healthy and regular contact with your supplier base and work closely with any internal stakeholders connected to the key suppliers to ensure that there is alignment to maximise proposition opportunities and ensure that the right range and pricing is attributed to the right route to market.
Ensure we have the optimum route to market for each channel by supplier/category and that stock health meets the objective of the business working in conjunction with the supply chain teams.
Working with the Pricing team to proactively manage our selling price in correlation with the strategy, our competitor landscape and our business goals.
Working closely with Marketing to create promotional plans within the overall Trading Plan to deliver improved sales campaign on campaign and deliver the financial support to maintain margin expectations.
Negotiation of commercial terms with suppliers as and when required to hit target and ensure the accurate and timely input into Dealtrack making sure that all reports are maintained, transparent and accurate at all times
Lead and manage a team within the category. Ensuring that team and individual objectives are clear and achievable and enabling them to perform at their best and develop their ability within their role.
You should be based in the UK within easy reach of our Head Office is based in Crick, Northamptonshire.

Skills and competencies
Previous experience of successfully delivering in a rounded category management / senior buyer role driving sales, trading profit (including rebates and TAs), margin rate, return on stock and product availability
Highly numerate, with an ability to utilise research and insight to understand both customers and the market
Demonstrable experience in category/account growth through critical analysis and opportunity development that incorporates innovation and legislative changes
Able to build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders using influencing, collaboration and negotiation skills
Able to demonstrate your drive, enthusiasm and continuous improvement outlook in order to maximise our commercial success
