Job Description

WEA are looking for talented individuals to help us deliver our mission - to bring education within reach.

The purpose of this role is to carry out appropriate duties in respect of the WEA estate, in terms of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and in accordance with WEA policies and procedures, at various learning centres and office sites across England and Scotland. Responsibilities will include the opening/securing of sites, basic repairs, completion of a planned preventative maintenance and health and safety schedule, working with contractors to ensure a vibrant experience for all of WEA staff, learners and customers.

Key areas of responsibilityUnder the day to day supervision of the Head of Estates and the Health and Safety Manager, the successful candidate will:

  • Identify and report on various maintenance and facilities issues and be proactive in managing maintenance and facilities issues.
  • Complete suitable and sufficient risk assessments across a range of areas to include generic, COSHH, Manual handling etc
  • Provide support to the Head of Estates and contractors on project management, ensuring CDM regulations are managed appropriately
  • Play a key role in supporting behaviour-based safety, to improve the health and safety culture of the WEA and to set an example to staff and managers of positive practice.
  • Receive and porter light goods and materials including the relocation of furniture and equipment, subject to safe practices of materials handling and lifting.
  • Overseeing general repairs and maintenance of the premises and grounds in accordance with day-today operations and the scheduling of work as directed by the Head of Estates
  • Analyse health and safety reports and action plans and coordinate improvement plans to completion.
  • Work with the Head of Estates and health and safety manager to manage all areas of site compliance and work with relevant contractors to achieve this
  • Work to identify and manage risk throughout the organisation
  • Travel throughout England and Scotland to complete various on-site health and safety assessments and audits

About you

We're looking for:

  • Level 3 or higher qualification in a relevant trade
  • At least 3 years experience working across a multi-site estate
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or be prepared to complete (please refer to the job description for full breakdown)
