Legal Assistant / Senior Paralegal - Children act matters

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Legal Assistant to join the Legal Section of our client, Conwy Council. The successful candidate will support various legal professionals in a broad spectrum of legal tasks and responsibilities, playing a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the preparation and management of civil and criminal litigation, including attending Court with Counsel.
  • Supporting in child care law cases, including care proceedings, fostering, and adoption.
  • Aiding in the preparation of statutory notices and orders under various legislation (e.g., highways, education).
  • Assisting in the preparation of contracts and agreements.
  • Supporting freehold and leasehold conveyancing as well as Town and Country Planning matters.
  • Assisting with legal matters related to adult social care, including Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, Mental Health Act 1983, and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • Conducting legal research as required.
  • Undertaking other duties consistent with the job role and title.

Corporate Responsibilities:

  • Building strong working relationships internally and externally.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Authority's policies and procedures, raising any concerns with Senior Officers.
  • Actively supporting the Authority's commitment to equality of opportunity.
  • Promoting and adhering to Health & Safety practices across the department and organisation.
  • Providing personal data as required for administrative and payroll purposes.
  • Undertaking any reasonable tasks as directed by your Line Manager or Head of Service.
  • Complying with Conwy Council's Safeguarding Policy to protect children and vulnerable adults.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Experience or knowledge in legal research, civil and criminal litigation, conveyancing, or adult social care law is desirable.
  • Flexibility to travel within the county as required.
