Engineering Manager

H9 Technical Recruitment are currently hiring for an Engineering Manager to work at our clients Quarry in the West Yorkshire area

Overview

The role is responsible for managing the Engineering function across four quarry sites and three engineering workshops, the health and safety of staff, contractors and visitors to site, minimising the effect of the engineering function on the environment, engineering projects planning through to completion in line with the annual budget.

Role & Responsibilities

SHEQ

  • Responsible for his personal safety and that of all personnel under his or her authority, including others who may be affected by the company's activities
  • Appreciate the responsibilities of personnel under their authority and ensure that each employee knows his/her responsibility and are equipped to play their part.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments on activities within their site(s) ensuring that the methods and systems of work are safe, also that the necessary procedures, rules and regulations designed to achieve this are applied.
  • Conduct Aspects and Impacts analysis on activities within their sites ensuring that the methods and systems of work are such to minimise the impact to the environment. Also that the necessary procedures, rules and regulations designed to achieve this are applied.
  • Provide written instructions of work methods outlining potential hazards and precautions, and ensure they are complied with.
  • Ensure accident/incident and near-miss reporting procedures are understood and complied with,and assist with accident investigations where appropriate.
  • Ensure all employees and sub-contractors are suitably trained/competent to carry out the prescribed task and that the necessary licenses/certificates of competence are in force and appropriate.
  • Ensure that all new employees in the company are provided with a copy of the policy statement, receive such induction training as may be laid down in procedures, are issued with personal protective equipment as required and their personal responsibilities as set out in this manual.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained so that contractual obligations for service and product quality are met.

Operational

  • To manage the Engineering functions of the Quarries Business associated with (but not restricted to) all Fixed Plant and Quarry Installations.
  • This will include managing engineering staff and contractors, fixed plant upgrade works, preventative and planned maintenance and repair of all fixed plant including electrical installations, fabrication and welding works, workshops and storekeeping and engineering staff recruitment/training.
  • Operate the Engineering Department in accordance with the Health and Safety document.
  • Ensure management control and supervision of all engineering activities on site.
  • Ensure that daily/weekly/monthly inspections are completed, and defects reported.
  • Liaise with Operations Manager and the Health and Safety Representative on Health and Safety issues at the workplace.
  • Work in accordance with Environmental Management System and promote environmentally considerate work practices.
  • Develop and promote good communications and professional relationships between all levels of staff and employees on site.
  • Ensure that employee timesheets are recorded accurately and processed in a timely manner.
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise on maintenance related matters.
  • Oversee the engineering department to achieve key performance indicators; communicate with and coordinate planning and resources with Quarry Managers.
  • Align maintenance plans to achieve key performance indicators and/or market demand.
  • Plan major maintenance projects and develop capital investment recommendations for the plant.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, training, and development to all employees in the engineering department.
  • Responsible for development, oversight, and effective management of department budgets.
  • Analyse overall performance of the maintenance operation and communicate results with Operations Manager to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure optimisation and execution of all maintenance resources.
  • Optimise overall equipment effectiveness at the lowest sustainable cost of maintenance
  • Perform statistical analysis, prepare reports, and maintain appropriate department records and files as required.
  • Providing the Operations Manager with information and statistics on the departments performance.
  • Ensuring that key Health and Safety legislation (Quarries Regulations 1999), implemented throughout the site.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation and industry developments.
  • Maintain the inspection systems and checklists in accordance with the IMS system.
  • Closely monitoring all areas of the engineering function to ensure that maintenance work is carried out to the highest standard.
  • Undertaking regular inspections and risk assessments in order to comply with all health and safety regulations and our IMS system.

Education & Qualifications

  • Experience in the Maintenance and repair of all types of quarrying plant
  • 5-7 Years of management experience in the Quarry or similar industrial facility
  • Must hold as a minimum QCF 6/NVQ4 in Extractives Management
  • Preferred Qualified Electrician or extensive electrical knowledge
  • Welding/Fabrication experience
  • Familiar with CDM regulations

Essential knowledge

  • Satisfactory completion of the relevant Competency Management System modules.
  • Completion of all other training as defined within the Training Matrix.
  • Field of Study Preferred: Mechanical, Process, and Electrical Engineering
  • Technical Knowledge/experienced on fixed and mobile crushing and screening plants.
  • Preferred Qualified Electrician or extensive Electrical knowledge
