My client is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to oversee and lead all health and safety initiatives within the company. In this critical role, you will be the designated Competent Person for health and safety, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and fostering a robust safety culture throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures that align with industry standards.
  • Uphold the ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management System, ensuring ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct routine audits and site inspections to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and company standards.
  • Oversee the creation, maintenance, and review of risk assessments, ensuring they accurately reflect current operational conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with COSHH Regulations by conducting necessary assessments and maintaining up-to-date records.
  • Review BMS procedures regularly, collaborating with process owners to update and refine as needed.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to senior management and department heads on health and safety matters.
  • Proactively identify potential hazards, implementing practical solutions and control measures to prevent workplace incidents.
  • Work closely with various teams across the organization to drive safety-related projects and initiatives, ensuring timely and effective delivery.
  • Lead the Health & Safety Committee, organizing regular meetings, delegating tasks, and monitoring progress to ensure actions are taken promptly.
  • Assess and address health and safety training needs, coordinating with the L&D team to close any competency gaps.
  • Manage the Health & Safety Portal, ensuring that all data, including mandatory checks, assessments, and safety records, is accurately entered and maintained.

Required Experience:

  • Proven experience managing health and safety within a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 45001 and experience in maintaining compliance.
  • Familiarity with LOLER, DSEAR, and PUWER regulations, and experience with workplace transport equipment such as forklifts and MEWPs.
  • Experience managing health and safety across multiple sites is advantageous but not mandatory.

Qualifications:

  • A recognized qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, such as the NEBOSH Diploma.
  • Additional qualifications, such as Mental Health First Aid, are beneficial but not essential.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess risks and implement effective control measures.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to influence others and promote a culture of safety throughout the organisation.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office applications and staying current with relevant legislation and best practices.
