Visitor Operations & Experience Manager

Summary

This is a maternity cover position spanning the whole Cotswolds Countryside portfolio of places for the National Trust and reporting directly to the General Manager of the portfolio. The portfolio is 9000 acres, with much of the land having special designations for nature or history. There is the expectation that we work with partners to influence beyond our boundaries too. There will be specific places of extra visitor focus including Woodchester Park, Haresfield, Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons, Sherborne, and Lodge Park.

You will lead our visitor facing team, play a key role in the portfolio leadership team and work closely with a variety of positions, including ranger staff, facilities, project managers, consultancy and volunteers.

The post holder will have a strategic focus and inclusive mindset, looking to grow our visitor numbers and income at key sites and our engagement with visitors at all places - to enable better understanding of their significance for nature and history.

What you'll be doing

The role directly manages 5 people and has a remit across volunteering, visitor operations, communications and managing budgets among other things. The post holder must be an enthusiastic and inspiring manager of teams and must believe in inclusion, diversity and visitor experience at all times. You will be continuously working to improve the access and accessibility to the outdoors. For all people.

There will be an expectation of some weekend, bank holiday and occasional evening working.

Who we're looking for

As the Visitor Operations and Experience Manager, you will have experience leading people and have been responsible for a visitor-focused operation previously. You'll love being a positive role model and are naturally able to inspire people to deliver exceptional customer service, to exceed targets and understand how this funds our cause. So, you'll need;

  • Experience coaching, developing and leading large teams
  • Experience working in a visitor focused operation and delivering high standards of presentation and service (ideally within heritage or visitor attraction)
  • Have experience of developing audiences through programming, marketing and interpretation
  • Take pride in delivering excellent customer service
  • Experience managing budgets and delivering financial targets
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage the day-to-day and have a strategic eye to the future
