Job Overview

We are seeking experienced and motivated Structured Cabling Engineers to join our team, supporting various projects across the UK. The role involves the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems, ensuring that IT networks and telecommunications infrastructures function optimally. As a Cabling Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering quality solutions for our clients in various industries, including corporate offices, data centres, retail, and public sector environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation: Install, terminate, and test copper and fibre optic cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, Cat7, and fibre.
  • Infrastructure Setup: Install containment (trunking, conduits, cable trays) to support the cabling system.
  • Testing and Certification: Use industry-standard testing equipment to certify network cables and connections, ensuring all installations meet required standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair faults in structured cabling systems.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all installations, modifications, and repairs, including cable routes, diagrams, and test results.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with health and safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Client Interaction: Liaise with clients and contractors on-site, providing clear communication and excellent customer service.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a team or independently to deliver projects within agreed timeframes.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in installing and maintaining structured cabling systems (minimum 1 year preferred).
  • Experience with both copper (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, etc.) and fibre optic cabling.
  • Proficient in the use of cable testing and termination equipment.
  • Familiarity with installation of containment systems (trunking, conduits, cable trays).
  • Good understanding of IT networks and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and understand technical schematics and drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Health & Safety Awareness: Knowledge of relevant regulations, including working at heights, confined spaces, and electrical safety.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
  • Certifications such as CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card, IPAF, and ECS (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme) are desirable.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Data Communications, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant cabling certifications (e.g., City & Guilds 3667-02, BICSI) are highly desirable.
