Our client is a civil engineering company based in Perivale and they are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join their finance department. You will play a crucial role in overseeing an organisation's financial activities and ensuring the accuracy of its financial records.

Authority to lead and manage the finance and accounting team, which includes assigning tasks and setting priorities.

Responsible for generating and presenting financial reports to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial information.

Accountable for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of financial records and reports.

Job Summary

The Financial Controller is a key position within a company's finance department, responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, including accounting, budgeting, reporting, and compliance. This role involves financial analysis and providing strategic financial guidance to support informed decision-making. To provide management and financial accounting reports to support the organisation which includes taking responsibility for the entries on the general ledger including reconciliations and completing detailed reviews of the profit and loss account and Balance sheet on the company accounting system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation and reconciliation of Profit and Loss and Balance sheet reports on a quarterly basis.
  • Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns.
  • Preparation of budgets and cash flow requirements for the company and monitoring these for variances.
  • All aspects in maintaining accounting records to include monthly reconciliation of Bank accounts, Debtors control, creditors control and subcontractor controls.
  • Overseeing other members of the accounting department and monitoring their work.
  • Detailed Job costings of every construction project to include monthly CVR statements.
  • Work closely with the commercial director and his team to manage and report on all aspects of financial control of Construction Projects.
  • Review/prepare monthly payment schedules.
  • Prepare and post all accounting journal entries.
  • Deal with all month end accounting procedures.
  • Assist with preparation year end annual accounts and coordination of audit and dealing with the auditors.
  • Maintaining details cashflow report to enable the company to effectively manage its cash balance.
  • Corresponding with HMRC.
  • Management and control of retentions.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyse financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and other reports as required. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with department heads and senior management. Monitor performance against budgets, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct thorough financial analysis to support decision-making processes. Evaluate financial performance, identify trends, and provide insights to management for strategic planning.
  • Cash Management: Manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operational needs and investment opportunities. Monitor banking activities, reconcile bank statements, and manage relationships with financial institutions.
  • Internal Controls: Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Conduct periodic audits to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax regulations at the local, state, and federal levels. Coordinate with external tax advisors to optimize tax planning strategies and minimize tax liabilities.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor finance team members, providing guidance, training, and support to foster professional development and ensure high performance.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate financial results, forecasts, and recommendations to senior management, board of directors, investors, and other stakeholders. Present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
