Office Angels are proudly supporting our client, a leading charity in Gateshead, with the search for an experienced Management Accountant to join their team on a full-time basis. About the Role:

As a Management Accountant, based in the head office in Gateshead, you will work closely with the Head of Finance, taking on a key supervisory role within the finance team. You will support department managers and use your experience and initiative to make key decisions under the direction of the Head of Finance and CFO. This position offers great exposure to the full functions of finance, along with some supervisory and reporting responsibilities in payroll.

You'll be part of a small, collaborative team where everyone pitches in to support one another across all business functions. In this position, technical capabilities and knowledge are essential to allow the Management Accountant to effectively manage and report on the financial performance of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Finance Function:

  • Oversee the full management accounts for the charity
  • Income requests, invoicing, and debtor reviews
  • Complete monthly management accounts for the charity and its trading subsidiary
  • Assist or complete quarterly VAT returns
  • Manage bank reconciliations and other bank/cash/credit card accounts
  • Perform additional financial tasks as required

Wider Organisation & Reporting:

  • Liaise with managers and colleagues to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Produce project budgets, costing reports, variance analysis, and forecasts for the Trustee Board
  • Work with managers of other departments to review P&L and project cost reports, providing advice in line with department and company budgets
  • Collaborate across the organisation to enhance financial processes
  • Prepare and submit grant claim reports, working closely with management
  • Finalise month-end and quarterly reviews, working with wider management teams

Payroll:

  • Supervise the Finance Coordinator who processes payroll
  • Provide support for payroll-related queries and processes
  • Work with the People Team to ensure successful payroll delivery
  • Offer salary forecast reporting to aid financial decision-making
  • Support payroll project reporting and ensure salaries are accurately reported
  • Handle journal entries to ensure payroll expenses are correctly reflected in financial statements

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in accounting processes, with experience in management accounts reporting, project cost reporting, and analysis
  • CIMA, ACCA, ACA, CIPFA, AAT Level 4 are desirable, however not essential - the company is ultimately in need of an experienced individual, so will also consider those qualified by experience
  • Ideally, experience with Xero accounting software
  • Strong skills in Office 365 tools, including Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Excellent communication and analytical abilities, with a team-oriented work ethic
  • Desirable: Payroll experience, experience in the charity or voluntary sector, and project work
