We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEN school in Wakefield. This role is ideal for an individual with a passion for making a difference in the lives of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language difficulties, and challenging behaviours. The position is available up until the end of the academic year, with the potential to continue in September for the right candidate.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide 1:1 support to students with SEN, ensuring they can access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
  • Work closely with the classroom teacher to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behavioural plans.
  • Utilise a range of strategies to promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning activities.
  • Assist with the development of speech, language, and communication skills through targeted interventions.
  • Monitor and record the student's progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Adapt resources and materials to meet the individual needs of the student.
  • Foster a nurturing and safe learning environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working with SEN students, particularly those with ASD, speech and language difficulties, and challenging behaviours.
  • Understanding of the strategies and approaches to support students with SEN.
  • Ability to build rapport with students and work effectively with teaching staff and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a resilient approach to managing challenging situations.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
