Up to 5% bonus

Fixed term contract for 18 months

Located at our offices in Leeds

We have an exciting opportunity for an Energy Recovery Credit Control Officer to expand our ever-growing team here at NGN. We have an obligation to investigate unregistered gas connections, including suspected instances of theft of gas; and where economic to do so, seek to recover money.

As an Energy Recovery Credit Control Officer you would undertake investigations and engage with customers to recover money in line with NGN policies and our obligations under our licence and the Gas Act. Theft of gas investigation is carried out in line with our Regulatory Reporting Pack, and you will help to ensure that we meet our reporting requirements both internally and externally.

Your key accountabilities and responsibilities will include

  • Analysis of unregistered sites to identify sites likely to be consuming unregistered gas
  • Investigate specific claims of unbilled energy identified through tip-offs or internal analysis
  • Build investigation packs to ensure suitable evidence is obtained and retained to enable recovery of money, including suitability for progression to legal recovery
  • Present findings to consumers in a professional, assured manner, with the ability to confidently ensure difficult conversations and challenges are managed
  • Establish facts and show resilience in circumstances where deception may exist relating to the use of unregistered gas at a premises
  • Negotiating settlement with ability to communicate process/next steps to consumer including confident delivery of difficult messages relating to need to pay or be subject to service disconnection
  • Chasing debts via letter or phone including ability to respond to changing circumstances
  • Input into improving internal recording and calculation processes including supporting any business changes and management of theft ledger, including attending internal and external meeting as required

What we are looking for in our Energy Recovery Credit Control Officer

  • Having a rounded knowledge of the gas industry would be preferred
  • You will have attention to detail with a methodical approach to work
  • You will have intermediate or advanced excel skills including the ability to manipulate large data sets
  • You will be able to use your investigative techniques, examination skills and sense of curiosity to establish facts
  • Good verbal communication skills including dealing with difficult conversations and conflict handling skills
  • You will be able to work on your own as well as part of a team
  • You will be able to demonstrate experience in relevant or comparable role, preferable holding a credit control or credit management qualification
