Job Title: Interim Microbiology Lab Manager (Operational)
Location: Southwest of England
Duration: 9 – 12 months FTC
Our client is looking for an Interim Lab Manager for an initial period of 9 months to oversee and manage all functions within the microbiology laboratory.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team which consists of managers and supervisors
- Ensure all laboratory operations are conducted efficiently
- Oversee all functions within the microbiology laboratory
- Ensure that key performance indicators are recorded and trended, presenting this data to the wider business and making recommendations for improvements.
- Prepare for and take part in UKAS, RSA, internal and external audits by liaising with customers, internal and external auditors
- Oversee media and consumable stock levels, ensuring that supplies are maintained at appropriate levels.
- Ensure the safe use, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Manage payroll reports
- Oversee training activities for all microbiology laboratory staff.
- Attend manager meetings and other meetings as required to support laboratory operations.
- Preparation and implementation of all internal and external audits
- Maintain and ensure 'good laboratory practice' is followed, conducting tests in accordance with established methods and procedures while complying with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and RSA retailer requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of the qualifications, technical competence, and experience of laboratory staff, including the authority to 'sign off' training records.
- Identify training needs and conduct staff appraisals to support professional development.
- Ensure the overall cleanliness of the laboratory is maintained.
- Uphold the utmost confidentiality in respect of customer testing and reports.
- Enforce the use of appropriate protective clothing and equipment in the laboratory.
- Monitor and ensure that all safety, hygiene, and health and safety requirements are adhered to within the laboratory.
- Report any health and safety issues to the Health and Safety Representatives.
- Enforce laboratory safety procedures and the use of PPE.
