Building Services Engineer

Service Care Solutions are looking for a Building Services Engineer to work within the West Yorkshire Police on a 2-year contract.

Location: Wakefield

Job role/responsibilities:
To provide technical expertise for mechanical and electrical building services and assisting the wider department in the delivery of both projects and facilities management by carrying out a range of duties including on site validations, inspections, audits, contractor liaison and the provision of legislatively compliant and value for money services.

  • Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions, reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes.
  • Supervise a range of projects, maintenance, and minor works, to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient working practices in accordance with statutory requirements and West Yorkshire Police policies.
  • Support the delivery of mechanical and electrical engineering projects, planned and reactive maintenance works and minor works schedules liaising with contractors on specialist technical issues.
  • Monitor and maintain the performance of a wide range of mechanical and electrical systems and equipment including Building Management Systems to ensure safety, reliability, functionality, and compliance.
  • Work within agreed specifications, tender packages, and contract documentation to support consistent corporate standards that reflect good industry practice.
  • Provide thorough monitoring of mechanical and electrical works, ensuring they are delivered within agreed costs and predetermined deadlines proactively taking corrective action where required.
  • Carry out building condition and dilapidation surveys to provide information for mechanical and electrical stock condition purposes, the maintenance of an effective asset management system and to aid asset and project appraisal.
  • Effective prioritisation of a demanding workload and ability to escalate issues and risk where required.

Knowledge/Responsibilities required:

  • A building services engineer with relevant experience, knowledge, and qualifications to demonstrate and prove the competency, skills, and ability to fulfil the needs of the role.
  • City and Guilds L3/ONC Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or relevant experience.
  • A clear working knowledge of current industry regulations, standards and best practice, Health and Safety legislation and statutory compliance requirements.
  • A good level of building mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge with the ability to respond to day-to-day issues and solve practical problems.
  • Good communication skills being able to provide oral and written technical advice with clarity to both clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • The ability to work well within a team as well, on your own initiative and to prioritise workload.
  • Experience of managing and coordinating mechanical and electrical contractors to support multi discipline construction projects, day to day repairs and maintenance and planned preventative maintenance works.
  • Experience of working to specifications, tender scopes, pricing documents and technical design drawings.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
