Planning Enforcement Officer

My client are looking for a Planning Enforcement Officer to join our Planning Service team. The role is crucial in managing the natural and built environment, ensuring that Barnsley's future development needs are met, making it a better place to live and work. The successful candidate will play a key operational role in the enforcement of planning regulations and policy, ensuring the delivery of an efficient and effective enforcement function.
Day to Day of the role:
- Receive, investigate, and prepare reports with recommendations on allegations of breaches of planning control.
- Undertake systematic and periodic reviews of approvals to monitor compliance and identify unauthorised developments.
- Manage your own enforcement caseload effectively, with support and guidance from senior colleagues.
- Ensure compliance with legislation and statutory obligations of the Council, dealing effectively with breaches and alleged breaches of planning control.
- Maintain the planning enforcement register, ensuring it is up-to-date and available electronically to the public.
- Provide professional advice and support on breaches of planning control to internal and external stakeholders.
- Keep updated with new legislation, statutory guidance, and developments impacting the team's work.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Relevant Level 4 qualification, Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (Level 6), or extensive equivalent experience.
- Experience within an enforcement or related discipline.
- Experience within the planning profession.
- Extensive Planning Enforcement Experience, including preparing and serving notices and appearing in court.
- Significant experience in undertaking complex planning control breach case investigations.
- Experience in contributing to policy/procedure formulation.
- Good knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, guidance, and policies.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications and case management systems.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply complex legislation and provide advice on compliance issues.
