Our client a leading trade body in financial services is looking for a Policy Manager for their offices in London with hybrid working to work in the Legal, Conduct Risk and Financial Crime team.
If you have practical policy experience working for an organisation in financial services, banking, lending, mortgages, savings, government, conduct risk, FCA, Vulnerability, trade association, professional body, regulatory body or membership body we would love to hear from you.
The Role of Policy Manager
To effectively represent the views of association members to external organisations and third parties and help establish and maintain a favourable operating environment for members. To support the Head of Legal, Conduct Risk and Financial Crime as necessary.
Respond to member and other queries and pro-actively identify policy development opportunities for the association
Represent the interests of members at meetings with outside bodies, eg Government, professional bodies, other trade associations etc. Typically chair or lead meetings with outside bodies, possibly with the assistance of practitioner's from members. Speak at, or chair, seminars on areas of responsibility, pro-actively seeking speaking opportunities to represent the sector.
Represent the interests of members in writing, e.g. responses to consultation papers, briefing to officials in Government Departments, correspondence. Typically written work drafted by postholder and views invited from practitioners on proposed response. Major response "cleared" by Head of Department, Chief Executive or Association Council.
Draft guidance via website briefs, newsletters, circulars etc.
Co-ordinate Panel/Committee meetings, prepare agenda papers, chair meetings, prepare minutes and undertake follow-up action.
Keep abreast of current developments on areas of responsibility, and the markets of members generally to anticipate future areas of work.

Degree level
Ability to analyse policy issues and develop positions that are substantiated with evidence
Ability to write in a clear and concise manner
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to take prime responsibility for particular areas of policy work
Ability to deal with senior representatives of outside bodies and members
Good organisation skills
Motivational and team work skills
Chairing (and/or acting as secretary) at meetings
Need to manage time effectively with the ability to work to strict deadlines
Desirable
Conduct Risk Management and FCA Handbook requirements
Vulnerability
