Your new school
A 1:1 teaching assistant is required to work with a Year 5 child. The school creates a warm and caring learning environment for their pupils where all achievements are celebrated. They are dedicated to each pupil's development by providing a curriculum that is tailored to their pupils' needs, ensuring they get the best possible education. The school was rated excellent in their most recent inspection with inspectors noting that 'pupils have very well-developed self-awareness, self-confidence and resilience for their age through exceptionally positive and well-developed relationships with staff.'

Your role as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant
You will be working closely with a pupil who is functioning at a Key Stage 1 level and has ADHD. You will help them to access the curriculum, develop their social skills and achieve their potential. Your duties will include:

  • Recording and reporting the pupil's progress to the teacher.
  • Establish a warm, caring, and supportive relationship with pupils to support them feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn during their time at the school.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to work collaboratively within a multi-professional team.
  • Contribute to providing high quality, challenging, and differentiated educational activities and experiences through supporting the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
  • Support the Class Teacher in all areas of the day to day running of the class.
  • Respond to the varying and changing needs of the school and adapt to any task presented to achieve the smooth running of the school.
  • Promote pupils' cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical development and spiritual well-being.
  • Provide a safe learning environment for the children.

What you will need to succeed in this 1:1 Teaching Assistant job

  • A relevant qualification in education, childcare or SEN, or equivalent experience.
  • A good understanding of the needs of pupils with learning difficulties and sensory needs.
  • A positive and flexible attitude, and a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a sense of humour
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
