Sound Quality Engineer

Location: Crewe

Contract length: Until December 2024 – with potential of extension
Outside IR35 37-hours per week.

Sound Quality Engineer required to join a luxury and performance automotive manufacturer based in Crewe on a contracting basis, to cover all stages of the development process from innovation and concept design into series development.

The successful Sound Quality Engineer will have responsibility for technical delivery of the whole vehicle Sound Quality attribute on time and within budget for a specific vehicle project, in collaboration with partners from across the business such as Powertrain, Electrical, Design, and User experience.

The Sound Quality Engineer role:

  • Support the delivery of current model lines and development of new experiences for future ones.
  • Support the setting and delivery of subjective and objective Sound Quality attribute targets
  • Support the definition of system acoustic targets. Key focus will be on electronic sound enhancement systems
  • Support the development of new processes and methodologies to enhance our capability and competence, especially in the area of EV Sound Function development
  • Support exterior noise legislation compliance checks
  • Create detailed calibrations of electronic sound enhancement systems.
  • Perform relevant objective and subjective acoustic assessments & validation of systems.

The ideal Sound Quality Engineer:

  • Ideally degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline,

  • Will haverecent experience of automotive Sound Quality and NVH design and development.

  • Possess the technical skills to be able to:

  • Balance different sound sources in the vehicle to deliver a cohesive sound experience.

  • Translation of sound design into calibrations (AVAS, Propulsion Sounds, Functional Sounds, Soundscapes)

  • Understanding of current exterior noise legislation.

  • Acoustic acquisition and analysis techniques

  • Acoustic simulation experience

  • Subjective evaluation skills

  • Jury evaluation studies

  • Product development experience, with a good understanding of integration of Sound Quality content into electrical systems & architectures – delivered in close collaboration with our Electrical Engineering functions,

  • The ability to effectively plan, organise, prioritise and manage multiple tasks, collaborating with stakeholders from across R&D and the wider business and deliver within project constraints.
