Job Description: Café Manager
Location: Jaywick, Clacton and wider Tendring area
Job Type: Long term Contract to Permanent
Hours: Full-time (40-hour week)
Salary: £30,000 - £32,000
Reed in Colchester are delighted to be supporting our client looking for a Café Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of their community-focused café. This role is not only about running a successful commercial café but also about transforming it into a community hub that delivers social value. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food, community development, and sustainability, with experience in managing a café or similar establishment.
Day to Day of the role:
- Supervise and train staff in food preparation, hospitality, and cleanliness standards.
- Manage staff rota and monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate stock.
- Uphold health and safety regulations in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Maintain high standards of food production and presentation.
- Handle customer feedback and resolve issues promptly.
- Manage budgets and introduce healthy options by working with the community.
- Develop a community food model that complements the commercial offer.
- Be creative with ingredients, especially when working with surplus food.
- Manage outside catering requests, including costings, menu planning, and delivery.
- Operate the café in a welcoming manner and ensure it provides a place for all people.
- Maintain necessary risk assessments and manage day-to-day relationships with café partners.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills for interacting with guests, staff, and suppliers.
- Knowledge and experience of catering, menu planning, and costings with a focus on nutritious, freshly prepared food.
- Experience with community development principles, ideally through the medium of food.
- Experience working with waste and surplus food providers.
- Extensive staff management experience.
- Qualified to at least level 3 in food and hygiene.
- Driving licence (desirable).
- Ability to create welcoming spaces beyond the provision of food.
- Excellent partnership working and relationship management skills.
