Location: Outskirts of Coventry
Hours: 37.5 hours

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Wheel and Brake Engineer to join the Braking Systems Division (BSD) team, within an international engineering company, based in Coventry.

In this Wheel & Brake Engineer role, you will be responsible for supporting the development of new wheel and brake equipment, ensuring that designs meet customer, regulatory, and internal BSD standards. You will contribute to meeting performance, cost, and schedule targets while also supporting internal customers to ensure the business fulfils its contractual commitments.

Key Responsibilities of the Wheel & Brakes Engineer:

  • Assist the Lead Wheel and Brake Engineer in performing performance calculations and simulations to validate equipment against design requirements.
  • Lead and manage small sub-projects within the larger wheel and brake (W&B) project as needed.
  • Create and review technical requirement documents in alignment with government regulations, company standards, and customer needs.
  • Support all phases of the product development lifecycle, including requirements validation, design, manufacturing, qualification, and certification testing, as well as initial service entry.
  • Coordinate with other engineering functions to ensure successful equipment development while meeting program targets for performance, costs, and schedules.
  • Track and report key development metrics, such as non-recurring costs (NRC), recurring costs (RC), reliability, and weight for assigned equipment.
  • Collaborate with stress, thermal, vibration, and reliability engineers to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Assist the Lead W&B Engineer in ensuring designs are aligned with Design for Manufacture (DFM) and meet Design to Cost (DTC) targets in close coordination with supply chain and operations teams.
  • Support the development of qualification test plans, documents, and test setups in partnership with test engineers, ensuring requirements are verified according to compliance standards.
  • Maintain parts lists and review technical drawings to ensure conformance with design standards and timely release.
  • Participate in internal and external design reviews as requested by the PLE, SME, Chief Engineer, or customers.
  • Assist in Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) processes related to qualification, design, and manufacturing issues.
  • Actively contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives within the Wheel & Brake Centre of Excellence.
  • Consult with Lead W&B Engineer, Product Line Expert (PLE), SME, and Chief Engineers as necessary.

Required Skills and Experience of the Wheel & Brakes Engineer:

  • Strong engineering background, ideally with experience of Wheel & Brake component design, and development,
  • Exposure to DFM, GD&T and working knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes
  • Exposure to Project Management skills including cost / schedule tracking
  • Demonstrated communication skills – able to make presentations to customers and lead daily discussions with group of engineers/designers and technicians,

Desirable Skills of the Wheel & Brakes Engineer:

  • Brake systems knowledge/experience,
  • Experience or training in Continuous Improvement activities.

The Ideal Wheel & Brakes Engineer:

  • Ideally degree qualified in a relevant engineering field, with industry exposure/experience,
  • A highly motivated individual with strong technical skills and the ability to work within cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with different engineering functions and stakeholders.
  • Adaptable and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines,
  • Able and willing to travel international, as and when required.
