The company have grown steadily over their 20+ years trading accelerating recently following a merger with large, market leader, who've brought financial security, additional resources and access to a new customer base.
The Role
We are seeking a talented Android Software Engineer to join our client's high-performing engineering team. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and implementing features for our Android applications.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver high-quality features for our Android applications.
- Independently own and execute on smaller to medium-sized features, seeking guidance from senior engineers for complex tasks.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous learning by actively acquiring new technical skills and staying abreast of industry best practices.
- Participate actively in technical design discussions, contributing your expertise and proactively suggesting improvements to existing practices.
- Prioritise assigned tasks effectively, managing time efficiently, and communicating progress clearly and concisely to team members and stakeholders.
- Possess a deep understanding of the "why" behind features, focusing on the impact your work has on both the client and the end user.
- Creating and maintaining Android Apps using Kotlin.
- Maintaining a CI setup with Jenkins validating commits and running automated code quality checks through SonarQube.
- Building android apps using Jetpack Compose, Clean Architecture, Widgets, Kotlin Multiplatform and Android Architecture Components.
- Writing quality code in alignment with the team's documented standards and principles.
- Contributing to estimates and delivering software on time.
- Creating and maintaining documentation.
- An understanding of the architecture and area of work.
- Coaching and mentoring Juniors and assisting in inducting new team members.
The Person
Technical Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in Android development with a strong understanding of best practices.
- Expertise in Kotlin/Java and the Android SDK, including experience with building adaptive UIs.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and multi-threaded programming concepts.
- Experience working within the SDLC, demonstrating knowledge of software engineering principles (OOP, SOLID, etc.).

The client have offices in the centre of Newcastle and would need candidates to spend 1-2 days per week on site. The role will come with salary of up to £55,000 along with an attractive benefits package.
