Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of some of the National Trust's most innovative urban places and projects, shaping our role in urban heritage and green spaces in Birmingham and beyond. If you're curious about how the National Trust works in urban places, well organised with bags of initiative, and the ability to engage and involve people, then this could be the role for you.

This is a fixed term contract, and we will consider flexible working patterns.

What it's like to work here

Reporting to our Project Manager, you'll be working alongside project and operational teams, National Trust and external consultants, partners, and external groups to help take forward the Trust's urban strategy.

The Birmingham and Black Country portfolio includes a range of places, outdoor spaces, and new partnerships – all of which speak of the ordinary and extraordinary lives of the people of Birmingham and the Black Country, and the places that are part of the city's identity. Championing heritage and green spaces in the city, we often work on projects beyond our boundaries collaborating with partners and delivering inspiring activities that help protect and bring alive the places that are important to local communities in urban areas.

What you'll be doing

Working at the heart of several projects, including at the Clent Hills, you'll coordinate and support some of our multidisciplinary and multi-organisational teams with running of projects. You'll organise and administer meetings and minutes, keep on top of all project activity, and research and present information, offering an efficient and effective business support service. Working within the appropriate business and project frameworks you'll provide a clear audit trail for decisions and activities undertaken within the project, regularly reporting on the progress of the project against budgets, programme of work and funding. Supporting project communications, you'll be a key part of the relationships with stakeholders and other members of the project teams keeping everyone up to date and highlighting any risks or issues. By being proactive in gathering information, you'll ensure coherent communications are shared so everyone understands the progress of the project.

You'll also support the wider urban strategy across the Midlands & East of England as we look to expand our work to new urban areas.

Who we're looking for

To deliver this role successfully, you'll need:

  • excellent knowledge of project processes and systems, including procurement, finance and reporting, gained through practical experience
  • good people and stakeholder management skills with ability to build and maintain strong working relationships
  • strong experience of budgeting and can collate, maintain, analyse, and prepare data for reporting purposes
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • good working knowledge of Microsoft packages, in particular Excel
  • to be able to multi-task and to successfully handle multiple priorities and deadlines
  • the ability to work well both in a team and on your own initiative
