Community Safety Officer/ ASB Officer

Location: Exeter
Contract: 3 Months, 37 hours per week
Summary:
We are recruiting a Community Safety Officer for a Devon Based Local Authority in Exeter. The role involves investigating complaints and incidents related to anti-social behaviour, enviro crime, stray dogs, and unauthorised encampments. You will work with multiple agencies to develop preventative measures and support the Community Safety Partnership.
Post may require police vetting to be undertaken. Must be prepared to work a shift pattern - 4 days on, 4 days off including weekends. This is a rolling shift pattern over 7 days averaging 37 hours per week. Shift pattern TBC at informal interview. Workwear/uniform will be provided.
The Role:
As a Community Safety Officer, you will:

  • Investigate complaints and incidents of anti-social behaviour and enviro crime.
  • Provide support to victims and complainants.
  • Promote a multi-agency approach to anti-social behaviour and enviro crime.
  • Engage with the business community to address concerns.
  • Coordinate multi-agency responses to specific incidents.
  • Assist in coordinating information for the Anti-Social Behaviour Action Team (ASBAT).
  • Record work and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Issue Fixed Penalty Notices as required.
  • Ensure appropriate support for complainants and perpetrators.
  • Represent the Council in meetings with partners.
  • Contribute to projects, campaigns, and events for the Council or Community Safety Partnership.
  • Undertake routine patrols and enforcement regarding stray dogs.

The Candidate:
We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification and experience in Anti-Social Behaviour.
  • Experience investigating anti-social behaviour complaints.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent keyboard skills and use of office software.
  • Ability to prioritise work and progress cases timely.
  • Teamworking skills and willingness to undertake various duties.
  • Experience working with partner organisations.
  • Political and legal awareness to escalate issues appropriately.
  • Experience taking formal action (serving notices, gathering evidence, prosecutions).
  • Experience in report writing.

Contract Details:

  • 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Initial 3-month contract with potential to extend to 6 months and possibility of becoming permanent.
