We are seeking a talented and experienced Terminal Engineer to join our team at the Canvey Island Terminal.

Role Overview:

As a Terminal Engineer at Calor's Canvey Island Terminal, you will utilize your specialist technical knowledge to deliver significant improvements in our business goals, focusing on safety, reliability, productivity, efficiency, and sustainability. You will tackle engineering problems and professionally manage engineering projects, ensuring that every project contributes to our overarching mission of safety and excellence.

Your expertise will be pivotal in supporting Calor Operations Sites and occasionally Sales and Customer Engineering. You will identify, develop, and implement new engineering systems, processes, or equipment, and deliver capital projects across depots, filling plants, and terminals. Emphasizing the integrity of our high-hazard processes, you will ensure the safety of our customers, employees, and the public.

You will be responsible for leading and implementing engineering projects, from conceptual design to final implementation. This includes maintaining and extending your theoretical and practical application of engineering technology to enhance business performance, developing specialist engineering knowledge relevant to Calor's business, and contributing to the development of Calor Specifications and Departmental Bulletins.

You will provide engineering and technical support to Calor Operations and Fulfillment functions, using a sound evidence-based approach to problem-solving. This includes contributing to the design and development of engineering solutions, communicating knowledge, and understanding of engineering issues with local teams, and implementing and evaluating design solutions.

In managing engineering projects, you will agree on the scope and specifications with key stakeholders to ensure the proposed solutions meet business needs. You will coordinate design and review activities, develop fully costed proposals for authorization, and follow appropriate processes to undertake engineering tasks and contribute to continuous improvement. Your role will also involve supervising contractors, consultants, and suppliers, managing changes to operations, and ensuring compliance with robust expenditure control.

Your commitment to professional standards will be demonstrated through the development and implementation of hazard identification and risk management systems. You will assist business functions in implementing new equipment, standards, and policies to achieve national standardization and best practices. Additionally, you will develop detailed technical specifications and procedures, manage safe systems of work, and ensure that projects contribute to sustainable development.

Key Skills, Experience & Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge and application of Engineering Principles & Safety Management Systems.
  • Professional Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering qualification (min. Degree/HND).
  • Project engineering and management skills with experience delivering engineering projects through all phases.
  • Contractor management experience.
  • Cost management budgeting and control.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with high-hazard process plants.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety and relevant industry and European/British Standards (depending on core discipline background), including Pressurized Equipment, Vessels, Piping, Rotating Machinery, Fire Protection, Steam Systems, HV/LV Power, Instrumentation & Control, ATEX/DEASR, Earthing, and Lightning Protection.
  • IT System competencies (minimum MS Office).

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of COMAH Regulations.
  • Familiarity with safety analysis techniques such as HAZOP and LOPA.
  • Familiarity with basic process control and instrumentation systems.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Professional Project Management qualification.
