Senior Test Engineer

Atkinson Moss Engineering have been engaged to assist our industry leading client with the appointment of Senior Test Engineer to join their growing Engineering team.

Location: Norwich Onsite working (Monday to Friday 08.30-17.00)

Qualifications

  • BEng/BSc in a relevant Electronics/Embedded/Electro-Mechanical engineering qualification

Experience

  • Experience in an engineering development environment, preferably in sectors where testing of electro-mechanical machines is prominent (such as Automotive).
  • Proven experience in writing technical reports in accordance with verification and validation procedures.
  • Excellent understanding of basic electronics principles, including measurement principles (isolated vs differential measurement methodology, bridge, 4-wire).
  • Knowledge of signal measurement best practices (e.g., when to use coax over twisted pair, grounding strategy, guarding & shielding techniques).
  • Ability to calculate measurement error and understanding noise floor (intrinsic noise, thermal noise, flicker noise, shot noise, SNR).
  • Knowledge of data acquisition (sensor/transducer, signal conditioning, signal processing, A to D, data logging/transmission).
  • Familiarity with PXI Data Acquisition chassis, specifically NI PXIe chassis & cards.
  • Good understanding of visual programming, NI LabVIEW, critically understanding measurement synchronization (simultaneous sampling), data processing, multithreaded processes. Beneficial understanding of additional languages and use of APIs/SDKs (e.g., C++, C#).
  • Experience using mathematical processing software, such as MATLAB, for data analysis, processing, and presentation of results.
  • Understanding of Nyquist, sampling rate, bandwidth, anti-aliasing, phase shift, and frequency response.
  • Experience in DSP, fast-Fourier, S-domain.

Duties

  • Management of Test Facilities: Ownership, definition, and management of the Dyno test facilities and test schedules.
  • Test Planning and Execution: Manage and plan tests, teardown, verification, validation, and competitor benchmarking activities. Contribute to overarching project plans to ensure adherence to schedules and compliance with processes.
  • Commissioning of Test Equipment: Manage and commission test jigs and fixtures required to complete test plans.
  • Issue Communication: Effectively identify and communicate issues to upper management clearly, concisely, and promptly while driving action based on urgency.
  • Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment reflective of HSE principles.
  • Test System Design: Design test system architecture required for verification and validation tasks detailed within Verification and Validation Plans.
  • Implementation of NI LabVIEW: Implement NI LabVIEW code to perform verification and validation tests on electric drive systems per relevant engineering standards (BSI-60034-1).
  • Technical Reporting: Produce technical reports that evaluate and compare product performance and statistical data for internal and external use.
  • Data Processing: Process and evaluate data collected from testing to determine validity and accuracy.
  • Test Execution and Data Management: Perform tests in accordance with test plans and ensure data storage complies with procedures.
  • Supervision and Training: Supervise, train, and instruct test engineers in all aspects of testing.
  • Mentorship: Manage and mentor test engineers to perform tests, verification and validation tasks, commission jigs, and operate test equipment.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Perform root cause analysis on test failures, test fixtures, test equipment, and issues during installation and commissioning of test systems.
  • Technical Resource: Act as a technical resource to other departments to address and resolve test issues.
  • Process Improvement: Provide advice and recommendations for improving the efficiency, accuracy, and automation of current testing methods.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain test procedures and ensure test equipment is in good working order and calibrated according to departmental procedures.
  • Support Teams: Support mechanical, electronics, integration, and firmware teams in verification and validation tasks, including pre-compliance testing.
  • Feedback to Engineering: Support product design teams through test development, data analysis, competitor benchmarking, verification and validation activities, and provide feedback to engineering about testing requirements.
