Building Services Engineer

Key Purpose of

the Role:

Carry out a detailed scope of work to advise the design, specification & installation and maintain cost-effective / energy efficient systems for building services replacement.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality, Health, Safety and Environment

  • Ensure compliance with Management System QHSE policies and procedures.

Service Delivery

  • Prepare detailed Schedules of Work in preparation for the annual Lifecycle and AMP including reviewing –

  • Reactive and Planned Maintenance records

  • Previous Condition Surveys for equipment, systems, and plant

  • Room Data Sheets.

  • Ensure projects are specified, tendered, procured, and executed in a timely and cost-effective manner

  • Ensure that all projects are delivered in line with the CDM regulations and ASafe System of Work, Asbestos Management and QHSE requirements

  • Advise Team members on all required works to meet changes in legislation/standards

  • Manage the planning of works in line with the Lifecycle periodicity plans

  • Manage Building Regulations/Control and Planning Applications

  • Assist with estimation of projects

  • Provide concise reports to the AMP Manager on all programme and project deliveries

  • Any other duties as requested by line management.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Educated to a minimum HNC/HND level or equivalent in a relevant discipline preferably with a professional membership e.g., RICS or CABE
  • A recognised formal Project Management qualification
  • An industry recognised qualification in engineering, building or facilities management.

Desirable:

  • Microsoft Project: Intermediate level
  • Qualified to member level of a relevant professional organisation
  • NEBOSH / IOSH Qualification

Experience & Knowledge:

Essential:

  • Undertaken analysis of survey information and other related estates data to provide succinct Scope of Works to support Change, the Lifecycle Plan and AMP
  • Support commissioning activities and provide technical support and guidance where required
  • Evidence of knowledge and understanding of building regulations
  • Technically competent with the ability to pay attention to detail and demonstrate an organised approach to work
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills, both written and spoken
  • A Team player with the strength to work calmly under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • A practical, flexible, and proactive approach with the ability to self-motivate and show initiative
  • Good IT skills with a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Desirable:

  • Embraces changes; seeks improvements in working practices and challenges the status quo for the benefit of the Business
  • Experience of PFI would be an advantage

Skills:

  • Technically competent with the ability to think analytically in a logical and systematic manner which shows a structured approach to organising work
  • Excellent people and time management skills
  • Effective management of project staff as appropriate
  • Able to communicate clearly to inform and influence others on what they need to know, when they need to know it; uses effective methods to deliver message
  • An eye for detail and good design
  • Can demonstrate a commitment to Health & Safety and the drive for continual improvement in this area
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Understands the right level of quality delivered in a systematic and consistent way to enhance both Customer and Stakeholder satisfaction.
