The Company:

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting one of the largest and most successful multidisciplinary design practices in the UK.

My client are seeking a Planning Consultant to join the team in the Leicester studio, reporting to our Planning Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work towards Chartered Membership of the RTPI (ideally through an accredited degree route).
  • Assist in the preparation, submission, and management of pre-application enquiries, planning applications, appeals, and local plan representations.
  • Engage with clients, third parties, and planning authorities on all relevant matters, ensuring smooth communication and project delivery.
  • Present proposals at public meetings and community consultation events, representing the company and ensuring positive engagement.
  • Conduct desktop research to support planning projects, reports, and appraisals.
  • Attend meetings and site visits as required to understand project context and ensure alignment with client needs.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, contributing to long-term business partnerships.
  • Contribute to new business development efforts, helping to grow the department through innovative solutions and client engagement.
  • Adhere to the company's quality assurance procedures and overall vision, ensuring high standards are consistently met.
  • Perform other relevant activities in support of the team and company goals.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the English planning system and a strong desire to learn more.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to present confidently in public settings.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Capacity to perform well under pressure, managing tight deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes; familiarity with Adobe software (e.g. InDesign) would be an advantage.
  • Full UK driving licence is required.
