Communications & Marketing Officer

As a Communications and Marketing Officer for Scotney Castle, you'll be responsible for letting people know about the place, and how they can visit.

Salary: £23,868 pro rata

Hours: 22.5 hours per week, working over 3 or 4 days and required to work 1 in 6 weekends on a rota basis

Duration: This is a permanent role which offers realistic salary progression based on annual reviews.

What it's like to work here

This country house, romantic garden and fairy-tale castle are set within a beautiful wooded estate. Scotney Castle is a big growth property in the region, with the team working to improve the visitor experience and facilities. Family-friendly activities at the site include a natural play trail, den building and summer adventures. You'll need your own transport to get here, however this is an exciting time to join the team within a fast-changing and innovative location.

There are regular garden tours for visitors to get involved in and a beautiful walled garden selling local produce and plants. This is A Site of Special Scientific Interest with green-winged orchids and rare plants abound in the wild grass meadows.

We have an annual plan covering communications and marketing, and your role from will be to achieve what's on that plan. We have some ambitious targets that you'll be aiming at, including reaching new and diverse audiences, so there's room for creativity and fresh ideas.

Your day-to-day work will cover things like creating new content on our web pages, and making sure that existing information remains relevant and accurate, running social media accounts, creating promotional materials and writing and distributing press releases.

You'll be working closely with your colleagues on site and the Trusts regional advisers, known as consultants. You'll be part of a team making sure that we're sharing the best stories we can, with a focus on spreading the word about places to visit and letting people know about the Trust's conservation work.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you if you're:

  • familiar and confident with various marketing techniques, including digital and social media
  • experienced in writing and speaking clearly
  • someone who puts people first, and understands why great customer service matters
  • skilled in working with IT (including Microsoft Office)
  • good at solving problems, and able to work on your own initiative
