About the Role

Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around the UK this includes but is not limited to Glasgow, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and Peterhead.

Salary: £49,559 - £56,757 + car /car allowance + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The Real-Time Systems Delivery (RTSD) Team is responsible for the project delivery, design, installation, testing and commissioning of Industrial Control Systems, Operational Communications and SCADA field systems that SHEPD use to operate our primary and secondary assets across multiple locations across the Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) licensed area.

As a SCADA Field Engineer you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of Operational Technology equipment to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the SCADA network. You will work closely with Design Engineers, Project Managers and internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of projects to SHEPD standards.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Deliver Operational Communication and SCADA systems that monitor and control SHEPD's primary and secondary assets.
  • Configure, test, commission and manage Remote Terminal Units (RTU's) and other intelligent electronic devices to implement functional logic.
  • Configure, test, commission and manage communication devices, to ensure remote connectivity to the Distribution Control Centre.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineers to review internal technical documentation, including ownership of site commissioning documentation.
  • Provide technical support to the broader business and key stakeholders.
  • A good understanding of Operational Safety Rules and setting to work practices.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • An HNC in a relevant engineering discipline or working in a similar role with proven experience and recognised in-house qualifications.
  • Experience configuring and commissioning SCADA systems, RTUs and network communication devices would be beneficial.
  • Experience of communications protocols and operational communication methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate diligence and prioritise tasks.
  • Technically minded with fault finding and problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility is essential as you will be required to work on a standby rota to respond to incidents outwith normal working hours and weekends.
  • The role requires travel to substations, remote sites and other SSE offices, so a full driving license is essential.
