Qualified Business Partner - Construction
Temp to Perm for the ideal candidate
£400 - £600 day rate (dependent on level of experience)
Initially, 3 months, but could become permanent for the right candidate.
Hybrid (Initial weeks in the office)
47.5 hours a week. There may be extra hours due to workload.
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Finance Business Partner will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and control of the Operating Unit's (Contract to Cash/Project based) financial reporting processes, including the month-end process and preparation of the quarterly forecast. Working closely with the FD, the FBP will: attend and provide scrutiny in project review meetings, be a key conduit between the OU leadership and projects, and provide timely and accurate financial information in accordance with company policies and procedures.
What you'll do:
- Oversee the production of the monthly management accounts (Order to Gross Income & Cash) ensuring accurate and timely reporting for review with the Finance Director and Commercial Director.
- Review project monthly Cost and Value Reconciliations, ensuring concepts such as project revenue, margin (POCC and earned), WIP, accruals, prepayments, and provisions are recorded, compliant with policy and procedures, and reported accurately by projects.
- Attend monthly project review meetings and quarterly project forecasting and reporting meetings, applying your existing knowledge of contract accounting and commercial awareness to scrutinise project performance.
- Assist with the production of the OU's quarterly forecasting pack, working closely with the FD and CD to ensure that risks, opportunities, project profit-take, BMW, bell curve, and phasing are all appropriately reflected and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Review monthly project balance sheets to ensure they accurately reflect the true project position (operationally and commercially) and that key risks and opportunities on each project are understood.
- Review project cash positions (including approval of project bank account cash transfers) with project accountants to ensure cash to gross income differences are understood and communicated to commercial and operations teams on site.
- Build and develop relationships with operational and commercial leads to the extent that you are seen as a trusted finance business partner that ensures accountability and ownership of financial forecasts and reports for each project.
- Lead and develop a team of 4 direct line reports.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, ACMA) with experience of leading teams, particularly within construction/infrastructure.
- Experienced in long-term contract accounting within construction/infrastructure.
- Awareness of NEC contracts and options, with an ability to challenge commercial terminology and assumptions.
- The ability to deputise for the OU FD at meetings/events in their absence.
- Understanding and experience of CVR's.
- Experience of liaising directly with internal and external auditors on project accounting matters.
- Experience of influencing the decision-making of senior stakeholders.
- Strong communication and analytical skills with attention to detail and capable of seeing the big picture.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and IT skills - experience of ERP (Oracle) is desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to present to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
