My client is seeking a Chief Buyer to manage the procurement of goods, materials, and services, ensuring the company's operational needs are met with a focus on cost, quality, delivery, and sustainability of supply chains. This role involves strategic sourcing, negotiation, and purchasing to support the company's operational and strategic requirements, including raw materials, traded goods, overhead, and capital purchases. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively across various departments, harnessing group buying power and maintaining a positive approach towards ESG aspects of procurement.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead and develop structured, creative, and innovative procurement processes.
  • Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials, managing any supply risks impacting business operations.
  • Purchase goods, materials, components, or services in line with specifications, cost, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor strategies, and evaluate suppliers and alternative solutions.
  • Identify and deliver opportunities to improve cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Design Team to research and evaluate new products.
  • Provide updates and reports, develop strategies to improve operational efficiency, and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Negotiate contracts, improve value, and review opportunities using best practice tools and methods.
  • Assess supplier performance, ensure contract compliance, and manage performance improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company guidelines, purchasing policies, and procedures.
  • Explore alternate sources for goods and materials, contributing to ‘make or buy' decisions.
  • Manage the procurement process, assess tenders, and prepare purchase orders in line with organisational targets.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in procurement within a similar role.
  • Strong negotiation skills and knowledge of procurement best practices.
  • Ability to manage and mentor a team, fostering a process-driven procurement environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Knowledge of market trends and supplier evaluation.
  • Commitment to ESG principles in procurement activities.
  • Proficiency in managing procurement systems and compliance with health and safety standards.
