Job Overview:

As the Lead Packaging Buyer, managing a team of 2 stock controllers, you will lead procurement activities for a range of packaging materials including boxes, pallets, netting, plastic sealers, and punnets. You'll work with both domestic and international suppliers to purchase packaging solutions. Collaborating closely with commercial and sustainability teams, you'll drive cost-saving initiatives, ensure compliance with packaging regulations, and contribute to innovative packaging projects aimed at reducing plastic for retailers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procurement Execution: Sourcing, supplier relationships, and purchasing for packaging materials.
  • Compliance Management: Oversee key packaging compliances, including labelling, material regulations, plastic packaging taxes, and retailer-specific requirements across multiple business units.
  • Cost Optimisation: Drive cost-saving initiatives and support packaging spend effectively.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with commercial and sustainability teams to stay ahead of packaging trends and innovations.
  • Management: 2 direct reports, Stock Controllers

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in packaging procurement (food or retail environment would be desirable but not a requirement).
  • Strong understanding of packaging regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to manage supplier relationships and execute cost-saving initiatives.
  • Experience collaborating with sustainability teams on packaging innovations.
