Homeless Prevention and Assessment Team Leader

Main Purpose of the Job:

To ensure the delivery of a high-quality, customer-focused housing options service for households approaching Lewisham as homeless or in housing need. This involves managing a comprehensive advice and assessment service to determine the council's duties under the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. The role includes overseeing holistic assessments, creating personalized housing plans, and providing timely interventions to minimize reliance on statutory and crisis services, such as emergency and temporary accommodations.

Key responsibilities also include approving decisions under relevant housing legislation, ensuring the council meets its legal obligations, and delivering effective management, development, and training to staff. The role involves maintaining high service standards, supporting tenancy resettlement, and facilitating successful transitions into good quality, affordable private rented housing. As part of a responsive supervisory team, you will work flexibly across the Homelessness Prevention and Assessment service to meet evolving demands, ensuring accurate recording and reporting of individual and team activities.

  • Promote homelessness prevention and reduce reliance on temporary housing.
  • Lead, support, and train your team, ensuring adherence to legal and policy standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, manage budgets, and participate in multi-agency groups.
  • Oversee performance, quality, and safety standards while managing projects and responding to high-level inquiries.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation and deputize for the Service Manager as needed.
