Field Engineer
Position Overview:
Focus Group Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Engineer for our client, a leading Network Managed Service Provider (MSP) based near London. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing on-site and remote Level 1 support, handling installations, and addressing priority incidents efficiently. This role requires an individual with excellent networking knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage on-site equipment and tools effectively.
Key Requirements:
- Remote Support: Ability to work from home on Level 1 support tickets if no call-outs are required.
- Response Time: Capable of reaching central London within 45 to 60 minutes in case of a Priority 1 (P1) incident.
- Equipment Management: Must hold basic stock (provided by the company) like modems and switches and be able to carry these on trains if necessary. Should be able to carry tools in a rucksack.
- Transport: Most travel will be via London public transport.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in crimping and terminating Cat5/Cat6 cables, using ladders and drills, and a strong understanding of networking, including installing routers and other equipment.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Working Hours: 7 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday, with a weekend rotation if both positions are filled. Weekend work will be compensated with days off in lieu or possible overtime.
- Driver's License: Must have a driver's license.
- EPOS Hardware: Setup EPOS hardware with full training provided.
- Travel Flexibility: Occasionally required to stay overnight for up to 2 nights for long-distance call-outs or installations, potentially twice a year, including trips to Scotland. A company vehicle will be provided.
Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site and remote Level 1 support for network issues.
- Respond to Priority 1 (P1) incidents within the specified time frame.
- Carry and manage stock and tools necessary for network installations and repairs.
- Travel across London using public transport to reach client sites.
- Perform crimping and terminating of Cat5/Cat6 cables.
- Install routers and other networking equipment.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand and resolve issues.
- Participate in a weekend rotation schedule and be compensated with days off in lieu or possible overtime.
- Set up EPOS hardware following provided training.
- Be prepared for occasional overnight stays for long-distance call-outs or installations.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a similar field engineer role.
- Strong technical skills in networking and hardware installations.
- Proficiency in using tools such as crimpers, ladders, and drills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Valid driver's license.
- Flexibility to travel and stay overnight when required.
Compensation:
- Competitive salary up to £37,000 per annum.
